The Second Session Aortic Endovascular Therapy Training Course of Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Affiliated was successfully held in Beijing from June 30 to July 2, 2016. As one of the important agendas for this training course, at 21 o’clock of July 2, Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) was invited to live broadcast a thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair surgery to 2016 C3 (Complex Cardiovascular Catheter Therapeutics) Conference in Orlando, USA.  

The C3 Conference in USA is one of famous international academic conferences in the area of cardiovascular catheter therapeutics, and has been held for 20 sessions. 11 international surgeries were designated to live broadcast in 2016 C3 Conference held in Orlando, USA, and Fuwai Hospital, CAMS was the only institution which was invited to live broadcast the surgery to the C3 Conference. The surgery, which employed Ankura Thoracic Stent Graft System developed by Lifetech independently, was operated by Shu Chang, the director of Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital, who demonstrated a complex endovascular aneurysm repair surgery for the conference, and presented the features and advantages of Ankura Thoracic Stent Graft System when performing challenging cases to the experts present at the C3 Conference in USA and over 30 physicians across China participating in the training course at Fuwai Hospital.

This surgery was very difficult due to complex conditions of the patient. Intra-operative imaging examinations showed the patient receiving the surgery had relative lack of proximal landing zone, and had the potential of overlay of the supra-aortic artery resulting in brain ischemia during the operation, with influence of aneurysm on the iliac artery and the kidney artery. The experts at the conference discussed heatedly on the complex case. Finally, it decided to first treat the proximal end without any obvious incision at the distal end in the patient.
